JANUARY SKI TIP
BODY AWARENESS/ALIGNMENT
**UNDERSTANDING BEFORE SKIING**
A. “Power Stance” - An athletic position with your feet and skis where as your body alignment is in the strongest most well balanced position you can achieve in sport. Shoulder width and parallel uniformity that will achieve a powerful strength line of symmetry through your “center”. the knees being aligned over the toes at all times as well, solidifies the strength line through the body.
B. “Splay” - Improper alignment of the feet and skis where they no longer are parallel, even or matching. The inside or uphill ski is in front of the downhill or outside ski, causing the hips to then be pulled to the inside of the uphill or inside knee, enabling the inside or uphill ski to flatten out. The flattening effect is a subconscious movement pattern that happens to stabilize an improper alignment of balance so as not to fall down.
